Meet the Stallion
Meet the Stallion from the Cover
Inspiration always strikes least where you’d expect. The design for the cover of Ground Manners came to me one day when I was doing laundry, thinking about the brave and beautiful horses featured in my story. The image came to me exactly as you see it on the cover (except that my initial drawings were so crude, the horses looked more like rabbits!). The next step was to find a classic black Canadien whose face exemplified the strength, sensitivity, intelligence and courage of the breed. I was fortunate to find Deb Harper of Abbotsford, BC, who kindly sent me dozens of her photos. As soon as I saw Bromont Loupin Prince, I knew–instantly–that he was the embodiment of all those great qualities and would perfectly represent Zia, Contessa and all those whose stories I felt compelled to share with my readers. As it turns out, “Prince”, as he is called, is truly the exemplar of the Canadien stallion.
